Description
I was fortunate to get both male and female Pileated woodpeckers on the same tree. These birds are stunning. They have a loud call that can be heard a distance away. I hope one day to get a good shot of them in flight. Their feathers when spread in flight are black and white. The female is on the left. You will notice that unlike the male, her red crest does not go all the way to her beak.
